Trimble Office Synchronizer (TOS) offers an easy way to manage the transfer of data to and from multiple survey devices and the office computer. In the TOS setup a synchronizer folder is created for the data logger. Data required for the field is saved to this folder. Once the specific data logger is connected to the office computer any field data collected is downloaded to the folder and any waiting data is uploaded. This allows the survey manager and field crews to easily exchange data at the push of a button.
For example, the field crew completes a project and is returning to the office late in the day. The survey manager not only requires the field data but needs to transfer a text file upon their return; however the survey manager is called out of the office until the following morning. Before the survey manager leaves he simply copies the text file to the folder specified for the data logger. When the survey crew returns, upon connection, TOS downloads the new job from the data collector and uploads the text file from the computer. The office now has access to the project and the crew is ready for the following day.
Trimble Office Synchronizer supports Survey Controller and Survey Pro. The program is free and can be downloaded by selecting the following link:
http://trimble.com/scs900_ts.asp?Nav=Collection-32968 Once installed, there are a couple of options that need to be set. In TOS, go to Tools and select Synchronizer Options. Under the Sync options Tab make sure the following items are checked on:
- Sync Mode - Automatically on connection
- Conflict resolution - Leave item unresolved
- Other Options - check on both items, Archive deleted files and Synchronize geodetic reference files
Select the Display Tab and check on all three items, Display only files that need to be synchronized, Open Synchronizer when device connects and Set ActiveSync to work in "Guest Mode" only.
Now you are ready to sync. Connect your Windows Mobile device (such as a Trimble TSC2) to your computer. Establish the connection with ActiveSync and immediately after TOS will appear. Since this is the first time connecting to TOS, you are required to name the (root synchronizer) folder, in which the device folders will be stored (for example, C:\Trimble Synchronizer Data). Now you need to name the device folder in which the data will be stored. In this example, I am connecting a TSC2 with s/n SS10A04963 and will use the serial number to identify the device folder. Once accepted you will now see a folder, under the root synchronizer folder, using this device name (for example, C:/Trimble Synchronizer Data/TSC2SS10A04963). Press OK and all of the files on the device are copied to this folder. A message "All files are synchronized" appears. Office software that works with Office Synchronizer will automatically list the device folders.
Survey Controller Users please note - If using TOS to send job files between different data collectors, make sure the Survey Controller Version is identical on each data collector.
